“Today, the religion, culture, language and identity, which successive generations of Tibetans have considered more precious than their lives, are nearing extinction,”
The Dali Lama
The situation in Tibet is dire
The Dali Lama has said that China has tuned Tibet into a hell on earth
Please help the people of Tibet by taking the following action from Free Tibet a charity which supports and campaigns on behalf of the Tibetan people.
“Ask your MEP to join the Tibet Intergroup
The European Parliament’s Tibet Intergroup stands up for Tibet within the EU but now its crucial work is under threat.
Unless enough Members of the European Parliament sign up to the Intergroup by 22 October, it cannot continue.
We don’t have much time to make sure Tibet continues to have a strong voice in the EU: please take action today to urge your MEPs to join the Tibet Intergroup.”
For More information and to take action please clink the following link :
Free Tibet is joining other Tibet groups across the European Union in lobbying Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) to ensure that the Tibet Intergroup – the coordinating group for MEPs supporting Tibet – is re-established this year
“You can use the drafted short letter included or better still, send a personalised message (in your own language) by email, letter or phone. Remember, the deadline for MEP signatures is 22 October so please take action as soon as possible.”
As I always say just do your best, try and edit and use your own words if you can but if you cannot personalise the draft letter just send it as it is. Postal letters may be more effective but e-mail or phone if this is not an option for you. Note when clicking on the e-mail symbol you will get a blank screen with the address appearing in the address field. Also for some reason the e-mail window only seems to work if you right click the link to open into a new tab/window.
The people of Tibet need our help, most countries have turned their backs on Tibet’s struggle for freedom including the UK. The UK government’s betrayal of the Tibetan people is evident. In a letter obtained by Channel 4 Dispatches programme, Norman Baker MP and Tim Loughton MP, both Ministers at the time, declared that the government’s position on Tibet was “tantamount to saying British foreign policy on Tibet is whatever China wants it to be”.
The EU can stand up to China
The European Union has an important role standing up for Tibet on the world stage. While China is constantly attempting to bully national governments into staying quiet on Tibet, the EU represents 28 governments and more than 500 million people. It is China’s largest trading partner.
Strong action by the EU on Tibet depends on a strong Intergroup. If you live in the EU,
please contact your MEP as a matter of urgency to urge them to sign up to the Intergroup before the deadline on 22 October.
