Help Stop the Horror ‘Sport’ of Horses, Pigs and Buffalo Fighting to the Death

The thinking [person] must oppose all cruel customs no matter how deeply rooted in tradition and surrounded by a halo. When we have a choice, we must avoid bringing torment and injury into the life of another…

Please sign the following petition to demand that China stops the barbarous so-called “sport” of pitting animals against one another for entertainment – yes as horrifying as this may sound we share this world with countless thousands of people who find such brutal cruelty entertaining!

In China, male animals such as horses, pigs and water buffalo are often pitted against each other to fight to the death in front of a cheering crowd.

The horror ‘sport’ is particularly popular in Leishan county, Guizhou province, though it is just one of many areas in China where animals fight to the death in front of crowds.

The two desperate animals circle each other before they are forced into battle by being prodded and poked with long sticks.

The result is a bloody fight to the death with biting, kicking and rearing injuries killing some, while others simply drop dead from exhaustion.

The so called sport has been blasted by animal rights activists around the world as barbaric but locals defend it, saying it is part of their ancient traditions.

Tradition or not – it is time for it to stop.

Please sign and share the petition to demand the Chinese government stops the horror sport of horses, pigs and buffalo fighting to the death:

This so-called “sport” is just so barbaric, there is no other word for it. It is cruel and inhumane and should not be a part of any modern society. What is wrong with people I have to ask who enjoy the suffering of animals? Who attends such an event and derives some pleasure from the suffering of another sentient being? Rather like the Spanish barbaric bull torture and the Gadhimai brutal animal sacrifice, hundreds… well most likely thousands of people attend these spectacles of cruelty. Notice also on the second photo of the stallion further down that children are among the audience. I consider that exposing a child to such shocking cruelty to animals is nothing less than child abuse as it desensitizes them to cruelty, stifling any innate sense of compassion.

Animals are sentient beings who like all of us have a brain and nervous system and consequently feel pain and experience fear and just like you or I do not wish to die. This cruelty has to stop if we are ever to have peace in this world, if animals are ever to get the respect that they deserve, the respect for the right to live out their lives as nature intended, safe from human exploitation and insane callous and wanton brutality.

With sickening frequency the tired excuse of tradition is made in an attempt to justify such cruelty, such depravity.

The excuse that this disgusting mistreatment of animals should take place because of tradition is of course nonsensical. If the Aztec civilisation for example still survived would we condone or allow human sacrifice, which was than a common practice, because of tradition? Of course not. And neither should we allow such a heinous and barbaric “sport” to take place that includes such cruelty towards other beings who suffer as much fear and pain as humans.

You cannot use tradition as an excuse; there is no excuse. Traditions change as time goes on otherwise we would all still be practicing human sacrifice. You cannot use religion as an excuse, we do not have domain over the other beings with whom we share this world. We are but one species among many, we are not stewards, animals are not here for our use. Besides most religious based excuses are in the main distortions of religious concepts.

Conversely you cannot use atheism as an excuse to do as you please. Without some code of ethics this world of ours will soon descend into barbarity, which sadly appears to be the case as everyday there seems to be one shocking exposure of yet another unbelievable cruelty to other animals and to one another. Things change and we need to make ethical progress and discard such unethical tradition and stop such wanton cruelty. Animal fighting is not sport, it is brutal and unnecessary and shames any country that participates or condones such cruelty.

We might be the most powerful species on the earth right now, but might does not equal right. Animals should have the right to live their own lives, they are the other species with whom we share this world, as Henry Beston so eloquently wrote :  They are not brethren, they are not underlings; they are other nations, caught with ourselves in the net of life and time, fellow prisoners of the splendour and travail of the earth.

These shocking images show the brutal moment two pigs fight to the death in front of cheering spectators at a crowded stadium.

The two desperate animals can be seen circling each other before they are forced into battle by being prodded and poked with long sticks by their trainers.

As the two male beasts clash, they headbutt each other and attempt to bring their rival down by biting their neck.

The pig fighting game in Leishan county, Guizhou province, is one of many sports in China which involves animals fighting to the death.

Another popular sports sees two stallions pitted against each other in front of thousands of spectators.

Both stallions are first driven mad with lust by an in season mare parading in front of them. They are then pushed into a pen and must fight for the right to breed with her in front of the baying mob.

The result is a bloody fight to the death with biting, kicking and rearing injuries killing some, while other horses simply drop dead from exhaustion.

We need to keep in mind that such petitions are aimed at the governments or other officials of each country. In the general populations of countries such as China, Spain, Nepal – and frankly just about everywhere else including here in the UK where it is legal to wantonly kill animals under the guise of sport such as shooting – people are rather like us either indifferent, aware or actively campaigning to bring an end to animal cruelty. Governments need to out right ban such abuse of animals to prevent those in our society who consider that for mere perverted pleasure they can do whatsoever they like with the other beings with whom we share this world.

“Compassion for animals is intimately associated with goodness of character, and it may be confidently asserted that he who is cruel to animals cannot be a good man.”
Arthur Schopenhauer

Sadly there are many in our world who are plan and simply not good people and the laws of any country should not allow such people the right to abuse animals in the name of tradition, religion or under the guise of sport or any other excuse for that matter, and there are many many excuses.
