Help Save Thousands of Dogs From Torture and Death: Petition to End Yulin Dog Eating Festival

“Very little of the great cruelty shown by men can really be attributed to cruel instinct. Most of it comes from thoughtlessness or inherited habit. The roots of cruelty, therefore, are not so much strong as widespread. But the time must come when inhumanity protected by custom and thoughtlessness will succumb before humanity championed by thought. Let us work that this time may come.”

Albert Schweitzer

Please help to stop the Yulin dog eating festival from taking place this year. This is a barbaric and cruel event which doesn’t warrant the description of a festival. It takes place on June 21st to celebrate the summer solstice but is in reality an excuse for sickening cruelty to helpless animals that has no place in any modern society and should be consigned to history along with all the other inhumane atrocities perpetrated against both human and non human animals down through the ages.

Warning very disturbing images, just so heartbreaking.

Yulin, hell on earth for cats & dogs! #StopYuLin2015

According to this video 4,000 cats are also tortured and murdered in this festival of horror.

Please help stop this hideous festival by signing the following petition and taking the actions further down.

Petition: End Yulin Dog Eating Festival

“Killing innocent dogs to eat them — and torturing them only so they have more flavor — needs to stop!!!

We at “RAISE UR PAW” are asking for you to raise the voices and paws of the world to help ban the YULIN DOG MEAT EATING FESTIVAL, which is going to occur on June 21, 2015. Countless canine lives will be sacrificed in order to fulfill a barbaric tradition that has been permitted to occur for many years – and it is now time this horror is finally put to an end.”

Please read more and sign the petition

Please continue reading more information from care2

“Over 10,000 dogs — many just puppies — were killed at last year’s summer solstice festival in Yulin, China. And it’s going to happen all over again this June, unless people like you speak out to stop the horrific event.

One of the most terrifying things about the festival is that it leads to many abductions of household pets by kidnappers looking to make a quick buck as the festival begins. CNN reports that local animal lovers often try to buy the dogs before the butchers can, but the dog sellers often refuse to sell to the activists.

The good news is that the Chinese government really is feeling the pressure. According to the Guardian newspaper, the country has started regulating the dog meat trade, and sales dropped by a third from 2013 to 2014. You have their attention on this issue, so another international outcry could very well save thousands of dogs!

Sign Elisa’s Care2 petition to Chinese President Xi Jinping: Save the puppies and end the Yulin Dog Meat Festival!”

More petitions and other actions you can take

Please take as many of the actions below as you can, lets help to make this hideously cruel festival a thing of the past. – though this has the same information as the care 2 petition it is a different petition and worth signing.

Write to the Chinese embassador of your country and politely express your objections and ask for the festival to be stopped. Please don’t write abusive letters or e-mail such is unlikely to be read and may cause more harm than good.

More information and ideas for action:

Lets not forget that the killing of any animal for meat even if not in such an horrific way is reprehensible, cruel and unnecessary and has to stop. A sheep, a cow or a pig wants to live as much as your cat or dog. All are mammals, all are sentient creatures, all feel pain and suffer as a result of the meat trade, all animals fear death and wish to survive it is one of our most powerful instincts which all animals share.

The Yulin festival has nothing to do with the celebration of the summer solstice it is not even an ancient tradition

Rather like the Gadhimai festival the Yuling celebration is incongruous with a modern progressive ethical society and has nothing to do with culture, tradition or religion and only began in the 1990s.

  1. This needs to go to a higher power and a good place to start is here:
    Persona non grata
A persona non grata is a diplomatic who, for one reason or another, is no longer accepted by the government to which he is accredited.
Also, Chen Wu not only disregarded any and all Petitions but has added cats to this sick twisted & inhumane practice. Want to make a difference, hop on a plane with a plan in action and prepare for war! I would in a heartbeat…first releasing all animals and looking Chen Wu and thousands of others in the eyes what I would do after I will keep to myself. A coalition needs to be formed to stop this! I have called several Embassies as well as Consulates and another important call to make and I have:
    High Commissioner
In the Commonwealth of Nations, the High Commissioner is a senior diplomat who has been given special authority to represent one Commonwealth government to another on the highest level. The High Commissioner heads the High Commission and he or she has ambassadorial rank.

We have such hope & go to the core of our souls to save these animals and all animals, it’s time to go above the Governor who is really just a nothing!

  2. Thank you for your comment. You are correct that a coalition has to be formed for a more organised approach. Random petitions have little effect, though they help to give voice to many of us, with some exceptions most are ignored.

I have in the past written to Chinese officials about various issues and like many others have signed and shared petitions yet seemingly with little effect.

Unfortunately I rather think Chinese government officials at any level are not inclined to take much notice of petitions, letters or e-mail often it is not possible to find e-mail addresses.

Rather like the Gadhimai festival it seems that no matter how many people write, and I wrote postal letters to a number of Nepalese government officials, it does need someone with more authority to intercede.

While China makes some effort in some areas concerning animal welfare there are issues such as this horrendous and barbaric cruelty, which are entirely ignored and nothing changes. It is frustrating, as you feel so powerless to help these poor animals.

There are though a lot of people in China doing their best to improve life for animals such as:

  3. Kill these filth responsible, let us come and administer the same horrible experience to these chinese people responsible, I would do so eagerly. I would love to hear their screams, I would record and play them back, knowing I had revenged some of these poor little babies that had gone before.

    • I understand your anger, this cruelty is just so heartbreaking. How can people commit such atrocities to defenceless animals who feel pain and wish to live as we all do? I hope this festival is banned. At the very least I hope that many animals will be saved from this cruel death. There are many activists in China helping to bring this to an end and with worldwide condemnation hopefully we will help stop this cruelty for good.

  4. The Chinese are heartless people who will never fit into the 21st Century. How a society and its people treat defenseless companion animals is a reflection of the society’s values. These people would literally shit on 5,000 years of their own civilization, because they cant help their barbarity. They obtain internal gratification at the death throes of innocent creatures, because they themselves are vulgar, savages.
Consider that even in the most backwards tribal villages in Africa or anywhere in the world, you see dogs / cats walking alongside their human companions and are considered as part of the family.
The Taiwanese also respect their companion animals. The Chinese will never be able to unite with Taiwan because of the difference in their social norms towards animals.
Having said that, I think there is still hope that this will stop and the trend in that direction is good.
If you are a Chinese citizen act now to make your country join the 21st Century by advocating an end to this evil practice, which is the equivalent of Companion Animal Concentration camps.

    • Thanks for commenting. It is only the minority of Chinese people who behave this way. There are Chinese animal rights activists campaigning for a change in the law and also rescuing and caring for mistreated animals. They often put themselves at risk to do this.

The laws in China need to change as such cruelty and yes barbarity has no place in the modern world.

No animal should be treated in such way whether a cat or dog or a sheep, cow, pig or other farm animals. All animals have the right to life. The cruelty of the Yulin festival is particularly horrific and should be banned immediately but also the cruelty of factory farming, hunting and other forms of abuse need eradicating. Lets hope that next years festival is banned, I think with time and continued international pressure the Yulin festival with be a thing of the past – at least I hope so.
