“I am not well-versed in theory, but in my view, the cow deserves her life. As does the ram. As does the ladybug. As does the elephant. As do the fish, and the dog and the bee; as do other sentient beings.”

Please sign the petition to Save Turtles From Entrapment, Strangulation and Death With TTED Devices. Please however be aware that the lives of all animals are important, the life of each individual fish who gets caught in the nets is just as important to that fish as the life of the turtle is to the turtle. For comments about this issue please continue reading after signing the petition.
“Sea turtles have been around since the time of dinosaurs, but six of the seven species of sea turtles on the planet are at risk of extinction, with hundreds of thousands of sea turtles killed each year by shrimp trawl nets, longline hooks and fishing gillnets.
Here’s the good news: these deaths are preventable with TTEDs (Trash and Turtle Excluder Devices).”
“We need to help sea turtle populations by protecting their habitat and reducing their entrapment through capture in fishing gear. Sign this turtle saving petition requiring that all commercial fishing and shrimping operations make use of the TTEDs to prevent accidental turtle deaths.”

The best way of course to protect turtles and other creatures who get caught up in fishing gear is to ban fishing. A fish, a turtle, a dolphin all are living beings, there should be no discrimination, none are food for humans. Yes it helps to at least save the turtles from an unnecessary death, so it is of great value to sign this petition but we should not forget the countless billions of sea creatures who are killed every year to provide humans with a food they do not need and is not natural.
Fish like all creatures have a right to their lives, they are not food. Did you know that more than one trillion (1,000,000,000,000) fish are killed every year worldwide?

What About Fish?
The only ethical and truly humane way to live is to adopt a vegan diet and lifestyle; to see all animals as having intrinsic value and to live your life in a way that reflects and supports that philosophy.
Fish feel pain, demonstrate thought processes, and have a will to live; we must not dismiss their interests simply because we don’t fully understand the intricacies of their lives.
Fish have the right to live free in their natural environment; they are not here for us to harm, kill, or otherwise exploit.
http://www.all-creatures.org/articles/ar-about-fish.html please read this article which describes the suffering of fish who are dragged from their environment to suffer a slow and painful death : “… fish who are killed by humans are caught in nets in the open ocean and are still alive when they are pulled from the water. These fish usually die from slow suffocation. They are often crushed to death under the weight of other fish when they are dumped onto the deck or into the hold of a ship, and many fish are packed in ice while they are still alive.”
Animal Rights: Factory Farming Aquatic Animals
Research has show that fish avoid painful stimuli, this suggests that pain causes them stress that they wish to avoid. Like other animals in circumstances of confinement in captivity fish exhibit abnormal behaviours indicating stress and distress.
Fish are like other animals sentient, they have conscious awareness.
Fish are intelligent creatures, research shows they can use tools, they have long term memories of at least three or four months and live in complex socials structures. Here is what a specialist in fish behaviour has to say about the abilities of fish: “Fish are more intelligent than they appear. In many areas, such as memory, their cognitive powers match or exceed those of ‘higher’ vertebrates including non-human primates”
