Speak Out Against The Cruelty of Glue Traps.

This is the second post concerning glue traps which are among the most cruel methods of killing an animal. Though to my mind the taking of the precious life of any creature is a profound act of cruelty whatever the method.

If you are not convinced of the cruelty of glue traps please watch the video which will be disturbing to caring compassionate people.

Rodents feel pain, fear, and stress, just as the cats and dogs and they need your help. No creature deserves such cruelty. Rodents – mice & rats – are after all living only according to their nature, they are not pests except from the perspective of human beings. They like all animals have a right to their lives, it is their world also. No animal should die a long protracted death under any circumstance.

Remember: There is no right way to kill someone who does not want to die no matter what the method is.

Please urge airports to commit to banning glue traps today!

Speak out against the cruelty of glue traps by sending a message to air ports urging them to Ban Glue Traps

“After having been informed that glue traps cause extreme, prolonged suffering to rodents, more than 100 U.S. airports committed to banning these vile devices. But some have been unresponsive or have flat out refused to ban them.”

“Rodents may be small, but they feel pain, fear, and stress, just as the cats and dogs who share our homes do. They need your help. Please urge airports to commit to banning glue traps today!”

Please urge airports to ban the use of glue traps by clicking the link below to send a message:

Please use your own words if possible but if for some reason you cannot do so just send the message as it is. It is most important that as many messages are sent as possible.

More Action to take

The RSPCA are opposed to the sale of glue traps

“We’re opposed to the manufacture, sale and use of all glue traps because they cause unacceptable suffering and are totally indiscriminate in what they catch, often ensnaring wild animals like birds and even pets!”

The RSA ask you to do the following if you see anyone selling glue traps

What are the RSPCA doing and how can I help?

“For the past year, we’ve been running our “Wild Animals and Glue Traps” project. We agree that, as outlined in the Code of Practice Humane for the Use of Rodent Glue Boards, if these traps have to be used, they should only be used by, trained professionals. As part of this project, we’re asking that anyone who sees glue traps on sale to the general public to write to us at wildlife@rspca.org.uk with:

  • Name and address of the store where the traps are being sold (include postcode where possible).
  • The manager or owner of the store concerned (if known) and the address if different to above.
  • The date you saw the traps on sale.

We’ll then write to the retailer and ask them to consider stopping the sale of glue traps at their store, remove all glue traps from their stock and not to re-stocking them in the future – to prevent the problem reoccurring. The project has been very successful and many stockists have taken these traps off their shelves. Among our success stories, we made Amazon UK aware of the sale of rodent glue traps on their site and, in line with their pre-existing policy against such traps; they then promptly had the items removed.”

It is worth reporting this to the RSPCA , it’s quite simple just fill in the above information. Yes I felt uncomfortable reporting our local iron mongers, a friendly family business, but it is more unconformable –  which is putting it mildly – for the unfortunate animals trapped in this way. The RSPCA will simply send them a letter pointing out the cruelty of glue traps asking the retailer to discontinue selling them. Like anyone else retailers may simply not think it through as often is the case when people unknowingly commit cruelty, only doing so because they do not recognize how cruel such methods are.

Albert Schweitzer once said:

“We must fight against the spirit of unconscious cruelty with which we treat the animals. Animals suffer as much as we do. True humanity does not allow us to impose such sufferings on them. It is our duty to make the whole world recognize it. Until we extend our circle of compassion to all living things, humanity will not find peace.”
