Election 2017 Final Comments

Please do not vote for five more years of hell under the Tories

If you have time for nothing else please at least scroll down to watch  a brutally honest video of a speech by an NHS doctor which every voter should watch before voting.

Consider the following

What does her promise to once again attempt to repeal the fox hunting ban say about Theresa May? Anyone who can endorse one of the most cruel of blood sports cannot be a compassionate person or a person one would associate with goodness. Anyone with any shred of decency would not wish to undo a law banning fox hunting surely! Few people condone  such brutal cruelty, eighty-five percent in fact! Not only is this callous women condoning an act of extreme animal cruelty but she is going against the wishes of the people… So this is an undemocratic attempt for certain perverse people in our society to get their own way.  Fox hunting is a minority pass-time usually of the more well off.

Here is what Teresa May says about fox hunting: I have always been in favour of fox hunting

During this election campaign more so than any other I have felt the need to air my views as the outcome is so vital to so many people, and not just people but also our wildlife and the environment. Regarding the environment, although not mentioned much during this election or at all, fracking is underway in our National Parks and quite extensively elsewhere in the UK. Labour will bring an end to franking.

I cannot understand why the Tories were re-elected back in 2015,  since that time life for many people has become progressively worse. Why vote for a political party which so obviously puts the interest of the wealthy above the vast majority of the electorate. A party who even puts it’s own petty amusement first by continually trying to push through the fox-hunting ban repeal despite the fact that about 85 percent of the population oppose this barbarity which is neither ethical nor democratic.

Why? Why do people vote Tory? Indeed why does anyone consider right-wing politics the best way to bring about a fair society, that is assuming most of us want a fair society but sadly this would be a naive assumption as there will always be those who think they ‘re better than others and require and deserve more than other people. Frankly this is right-wing mentality, self centered, unequal.  Yet many people vote Tory, even disabled people who are among those most severely affected by Tory policies in the last seven years.  Is it simply ignorance or greed which makes people vote conservative?  Do people think that the improving economy, if indeed it really is improving or will improve, is going to make them more wealthy? If there has been any improvement it has been at the expense of the most vulnerable in our society who have been hit the hardest by austerity measures. However you can be certain that any improvement to the economy will affect only the wealthy as will a Tory led “Good Brexit” outcome which will be good only for corporations, again the wealthy few in our society. Concerning austerity, which the Tories fully intend to continue, the so-called debt –  and who really understands without a degree in economics what the hell that is all about  – since the Tories came into power has  increased by £555 billion.  Even if it had fallen do you really think that any improvement would take place in the lives of the vast majority whether working class, middle class, pensioners, people on benefits and so on. The answer  is no. Did you know that we are  facing the biggest fall in our standard of living since WWII.  In fact over  Over 120 economists worldwide just urgently backed Corbyn to avoid UK economic catastrophe:

How can anyone who uses the NHS even consider voting conservative, yet they did in 2015. During the last seven years the NHS has been chronically underfunded and progressively privatised with nurses pay cut and their numbers reduced and hospitals closed.

With regard to the NHS alone no one should vote Tory. A conservative government in power for another five-year will bring about the end of the NHS.

A vote for a Tory candidate will be a vote for the  privatisation of our NHS, the eventual end to free health care

Read about the great Tory NHS sell off :
The Tories were hoping no-one would stumble across this list of mass NHS sell-offs before the election. But we did.
https://www.thecanary.co/2017/06/06/the-tories-were-hoping-no-one-would-stumble-across-this-list-of-mass-nhs-sell-offs-before-the-election-but-we-did/

Consider do you really want private profit hungry big businesses carrying out surgery, performing scans, X-rays and other diagnostic tests. Never forget that with all private business profit is the main motivation. Making private business responsible for your health care is a slippery slope to the end of the NHS as we know it.

A vote for the Tories is a vote for the continuation of zero hours, low pay, 1% NHS workers pay cap… Labour’s policies in contrast offer:  a £10 living wage, stronger employment rights from day one in a job, ending zero hours contracts and ending the 1% pay cap for NHS workers, restoring collective bargaining in the public sector, reintroducing bursaries for training NHS workers — will all boost working-class living standards. Labour’s £10 living wage (up from its current £9) will boost the incomes of more than 20% of the workforce. These steps will push back against almost 40 years of redistribution in favour of the rich!
http://www.workersliberty.org/node/31096

An x beside a Tory candidates name on you ballot paper will result in  more and more people needing food banks : Report reveals scale of food bank use in the UK: “There are at least 2,000 food banks operating in the UK, giving out emergency food parcels on a weekly basis to people in hardship…”
https://www.theguardian.com/society/2017/may/29/report-reveals-scale-of-food-bank-use-in-the-uk-ifan

The the unfair bedroom tax will continue to add to poverty and misery if you vote Tory:

While there have been some exemptions to the bedroom tax as a result of a hard fought court case over three years, which the DWP spent £100,000 of the tax payers money to challenge, most people continue to pay this unfair tax:
http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/politics/tories-finally-make-legal-changes-9957777   Labour has pledged to end the bedroom tax for everyone

Homelessness will continue unabated getting increasingly worse if you vote conservative on June 8th

Homelessness, which has risen for the sixth year in succession  An estimated 4,134 people bedded down outside in 2016, according to the snapshot survey, an increase of 16% on the previous year’s figure of 3,569, and more than double the 2010 figure.

A vote for the Tories will mean you endorse another five years of Austerity.

Voting conservative will endorse the Killing of our wild animals: Your decision at the ballot box may condemn wild animals to suffering and death.

If you vote Tory you vote for the possible reinstatement of one of the most hideously cruel blood “sports” Fox Hunting.

Theresa May officially pledges fox hunting vote in Tory election manifesto
http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/politics/theresa-officially-pledges-fox-hunting-10447278

Voting for a conservative government will mean the continuation of the badger cull.

Consider: Your vote could stop the badger cull:
https://networkforanimals.org/badger-cull-2017/

“…the 2017 cull could be starting again in a matter of months, depending on the outcome of a general election on June 8th.  If the Tories win again, they will go ahead with yet another badger cull. This is a party that has shown that it doesn’t care about scientific evidence, cited by some of the world’s leading experts”

“If the Tories are defeated, and Labour wins the election, then our badgers are safe. Labour as a party are opposed to the cull, and Jeremy Corbyn is against it on a personal level too.”

A Tory government will also mean the UK will not implement a total ban on the Ivory trade.

Conservatives quietly bin pledge to ban ivory trade in 2017 manifesto

2017’s Tory manifesto, released ahead of 8 June’s general election, makes no mention of the pledge.
” the Prime Minister made a general vow to protect endangered species and the marine environment.
Around 20,000 elephants are killed by poaching in Africa every year, which means an elephant is killed every 25 minutes.
Government accused of bowing to pressure from powerful antiques industry lobby
http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/conservatives-ivory-trade-ban-2017-manifesto-scrap-pledge-illegal-poaching-a7748581.html

All of these threats to wild animals will be removed if Labour win the election tomorrow.

If you intend to vote Tory, ask your self why you do not care that the rise in wages are the lowest since Victorian times and that living standards have plummeted, that your fellow citizens have to use food banks , and do not forget that many people who use food banks have jobs they simply do not get enough pay to afford to eat! Do you not care about the injustice of Tory welfare reforms which have seen the income and services for disabled people drastically reduced with 500 hundred people so far who have had their mobility vehicles seized from them.

Tory voters: Do you not care that the NHS is falling apart as a result of Tory cuts.

Are the British people so selfish that they no longer care for the underdog or anyone and live only to feather their own nests or are they so misguided that they really believe life will now improve for us all in this the land of multimillionaires and billionaires who have accrued more wealth while the rest of us who have suffered under austerity.

Do you Conservative supporters think it is right that the UK now has more billionaires in residence than anywhere else on Earth while people rely on food banks, even starve to death,  struggle with a low income and in some cases no income as a result of benefit sanctions? Tory voters does it not bother you that the government reduce taxes, even ignores taxes for big corporations, while people are sleeping on the streets, while many live in poverty including  3.7 million children with no hope, no future?

For a better future for us all June 8th Vote Labour

Reasons to Vote Labour

“When Labour wins, the British people win. The nurse, the teacher, the small trader, the carer, the builder, the office worker win.”
“take our wealth back”
Jeremy Corbyn

If the Tories win , the rich and powerful win and the average person loses. Not only people of course but wildlife and the environment will lose as the fox hunting ban is repealed and the badger cull/massacre continues as does fracking which is now taking place in Yorkshire, Lancashire, the midlands and elsewhere  in some of our most scenic places, including our national parks.

Reasons to vote Labour

Firstly this election is about more than Brexit, at least it should be.

“This election isn’t about Brexit itself. That issue has been settled. The question now is what sort of Brexit do we want – and what sort of country do we want Britain to be after Brexit?
Jeremy Corbyn

For anyone who is in any doubt concerning Labour’ position on Brexit please read the following:

Labour “accepts the referendum result” and intends to build a close new relationship with Europe “not as members but as partners”.

“Labour will always put jobs and the economy first”

“We will prioritise jobs and living standards, build a close new relationship with the EU, protect workers’ rights and environmental standards, provide certainty to EU nationals and give a meaningful role to Parliament throughout negotiations.

We will build a close co-operative future relationship with the EU, not as members but as partners.”

Read More concerning Labours plans for Brexit:

http://www.labour.org.uk/index.php/manifesto2017/brexit

It is likely that a Tory Brexit will be of benefit for only the few. Any money saved will be handed to corporations as tax cuts.

New trade deals sought with the USA and others will drive down working conditions, food and environmental standards and I suspect animal welfare will suffer.

A Tory Brexit will erode workers rights, cut taxes to corporations and isolate the UK from our closest allies and trading partners.

Consider the following:

…Brexit will impact more than just the 70 millions human animals living in the United Kingdom. It is also a devastating blow for the approximately 1 billion non-human animals per year who are killed in the UK for food, trade, and experimentation.

Approximately 80 per cent of UK animal protection laws originate from the EU, and these laws have prohibited some of the worst aspects of industrial livestock production. Veal crates have been banned from 2007, barren battery cages for egg-laying hens from 2012, and sow stalls from 2013. The EU ‘constitution’ also contains a declaration that animals are sentient beings and that all EU and member state legislation must take into account the effect on animal welfare.

Brexit has put all of these advances at risk. The UK will no longer need to comply with these rules, and it appears unlikely that they will do so voluntarily.

https://sentience-politics.org/billions-betrayed-by-brexit-and-they-didnt-even-get-to-vote/

Labour  include a number of positive animal welfare pledges  in their manifesto – more about this further down.

Labour commits to the following:

NHS

Labour pledges to  increase NHS funding by 6 billion annually.   The party will ‘commit to over £6 billion extra in annual funding through increasing income tax for the highest 5% of earners’

Here are just a few highlights of Labours proposals for our NHS

“We will invest in our NHS for world-class care”

Labour guarantee “access to treatment within 18 weeks, we will take one million people off NHS waiting lists by the end of the next Parliament.”

“We will ensure all NHS patients get fast access to the most effective new drugs and treatments”,

“We will guarantee that patients can be seen in A&E within four hours.”

“We will increase funding to GP services to ensure patients can access the care they need.”

“We will ensure all NHS patients get fast access to the most effective new drugs and treatments,”

“Labour will focus resources on services to provide care closer to home and deliver a truly 21st century health system.”

“Labour will set the ambition to make our country autism-friendly.”

The party also plans to scrap NHS pay cap and  ‘give our NHS workers the pay they deserve’.

Labour pledge to give “mental health the same priority as physical health means not only ensuring access to services, but also making improvements, to those services.” This will include  investment “in early intervention by increasing the proportion of mental health budgets spent on support for children and young people.”

Here is a shocking fact, Suicide is now the most common cause of death for boys aged between 5 and 19.

For full details of Labour’s proposals for the NHS please read the full section of their manifesto:
Healthcare for all
http://www.labour.org.uk/index.php/manifesto2017/healthcare-for-all

The NHS was founded by the Labour party and is one of their greatest achievements which makes available free universal healthcare to all.

Don’t allow the Tories to privatise our NHS and make health care a privilege for the few.

Labour plans to re-nationalise the railways, Royal Mail, and water and also says it will restore parts of the energy industry into public ownership.

Railways

As Franchises expire Labour pledges to return private railways to public ownership. Since privatisation prices have risen while the quality of services has decreased. Operating not-for-profit returning to public owner ship will reduce fares. Since the Tories came to power rail fares have rocketed by 27% – that’s a rise three times faster than the growth in wages. Some season tickets are up by over 40%.

Royal Mail

As soon as possible Labour plan to reverse the privatisation of  Royal Mail. Since privatisation of this national asset, which was sold off cheaply, there has been a significant increase in postal charges and a poorer service – do you remember when you got your post before going to work and a second delivery late morning. Now you ‘re lucky if you get your first and only delivery before mid day!

Energy

Since privatisation the cost of energy has increased at an alarming rate leaving many people unable to afford the cost of heating their homes while energy providers rake in massive profits. During 2015 private energy providers overcharged customers by £2 billion

Labour says it will bring energy into partial public ownership – this will begin with an immediate “emergency price cap” on energy bills to ensure that the average duel fuel household energy bill remains below £1,000 a year.

Water

“The Tories have rigged our economy so that bill payers fund wealthy shareholders of companies which in turn pay little in tax. It doesn’t have to be this way,”

Labour plan to re-nationalise the water industry introducing a network of regional publicly-owned water companies.

Water companies make huge profits from a resource which is vital for survival, good health and quality of life. As a result of privatisation water bills have risen by 40 per cent. Profits go to share holders which could benefit all rather than the privileged few. The privatisation of water has to be among the most appalling of all the mass privatisations.

“Labour will rebalance our economy so that the many are no longer ripped off by the wealthy and powerful few. Labour will transform our energy, water and mail markets so that they work for consumers. Our plans for public ownership and greater transparency will slash bills and drive investment in efficiency and renewables.”

http://labourlist.org/2017/05/water-nationalisation-will-end-years-of-rip-offs-says-corbyn/

Returning water to public funding could cut household water bills by £220

Following a worldwide trend Labour plan to take back public utilities into public ownership “to deliver lower prices, more accountability and a more sustainable economy. “

The Environment

Labour promises to ban fracking and supports other positive environmental intitiatives.

A huge raft of environmental reforms is promised in the Labour Party’s draft manifesto, writes Oliver Tickell. Among the highlights: a ban on fracking; a clean energy policy based on renewables and efficiency; no commitment to new nuclear power; to meet our Paris Agreement obligations on climate; to give companies a legal obligation to protect the environment; to retain all EU environment laws post-Brexit; and multilateral nuclear disarmament.

Do you know that right now fracking is taking place in Yorkshire:
https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2016/dec/20/fracking-to-go-ahead-in-north-yorkshire-after-high-court-ruling

Now fracking firms set sights on beauty spots across Britain: Hundreds of sites could be approved for drilling including national parks:
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3607888/Now-fracking-firms-set-sights-beauty-spots-Britain-Hundreds-sites-approved-drilling-including-national-parks.html

Also included in the manifesto are plans to ” introduce a new Clean Air Act to deal with the Conservative legacy of illegal air quality,“plant a million trees of native species to promote biodiversity and better flood management. Unlike the Conservatives who attempted to privatise our forests, Labour will keep them in public hands.”

Tuition Fees

Labour intends to abolish tuition fees and reintroduce maintenance grants. This goes without saying is a more fair system and opens opportunities for everyone with the necessary ability to advance his or her education rather than only those who can afford it. Who really could not consider this a fair just policy.

Labour plans to give “everyone the opportunity to access education throughout their lives.”

Labour “will create a unified National Education Service (NES) for England to move towards cradle-to-grave learning that is free at the point of use. The NES will be built on the principle that ‘Every Child – and Adult Matters’ and will incorporate all forms of education, from early years through to adult education.”

Benefits

During their time in government the conservatives have slashed social security plunging millions into poverty and increased the need for food banks. In the UK today one of the richest countries in the world 4 million children live in poverty.

Among the many plans Labour has to undo the misery of rising poverty as a result of the conservatives failed attempts on the backs of the poor to reduce the deficit is to scrap the bedroom tax , reinstate housing benefits for the under twenty-ones,  scrap the cruel and unfair sanctions regime .

Labour will also:
” reform and redesign UC, ending six-week delays in payment and the ‘rape clause’.

“commit to tackle child poverty with a new Child Poverty Strategy.”

  • Increase Employment and Support Allowance (ESA) by £30 per week for those in the work-related activity group, and repeal cuts in the UC limited capacity for work element.
  • Increase Carer’s Allowance by £11 to the level of Jobseekers’ Allowance.
  • Implement the court decision on Personal Independence Payment (PIP) so that there is real parity of esteem between those with physical and mental-health conditions.
  • Scrap the Work Capability and Personal Independence Payment assessments and replace them with a personalised, holistic assessment process that provides each individual with a tailored plan, building on their strengths and addressing barriers. Labour will end the privatisation of assessments.
  • End the pointless stress of reassessments for people with severe long-term conditions.
  • Commission a report into expanding the Access to Work programme.

“We will change the culture of the social security system, from one that demonises people not in work to one that is supportive and enabling.”

Animal Welfare

Keep the fox hunting ban

Labour will keep the fox hunting ban, a ban which the overwhelming majority approve.

You can sign a Labour Party petition directed at the Tories to tell them you wish to keep the ban
http://www.labour.org.uk/index.php/content/keep-the-ban-on-fox-hunting   However the most affective way to ensure the ban remains is to vote for Labour

The Tories on the other hand fully intend to reinstate this horrifically cruel blood sport

“Theresa May sensationally confirmed she hopes to bring back fox-hunting after the Mirror exposed a secret Tory plot to repeal the ban.

Speaking in Leeds today, the Prime Minister admitted she has “always been in favour” of the cruel blood sport and will press ahead with plans for a free vote of MPs after the election.”

Stop the badger cull – vaccinate instead.

“I am opposed to Badger cull. No to killing tens of thousands of these protected animals. Vaccinate against BTB”
Jeremy Corbyn Twitter: https://twitter.com/jeremycorbyn/status/321343538413588483?lang=en

The Tories tend to extend this cruel massacre of badgers and have already killed 10,000 of these animals who have as much right to their lives as you or I

You can read more detail in the following article:

More than 10,000 badgers have been killed to prevent the spread of tuberculosis in cattle, the Government has announced, as it revealed it is considering extending the culls.

Concerning animal welfare Labour pledges the following:

“Labour’s vision is for the UK to lead the world with high animal welfare standards”

“Labour will increase the maximum sentence for those convicted of committing animal cruelty.”

“Labour  will prohibit the third-party sale of puppies, introduce and enforce a total ban on ivory trading, and support the ban on wild  animals in circuses.

As with fox hunting Labour banned, deer hunting and hare coursing and only Labour will maintain these bans.

In order to protect bees the Labour  party will promise to ban neonicotinoids, an insecticide that has led to a decline in population.

“Labour promises to “protect our bees by prohibiting neonicotinoids as soon as our EU relationship allows us to do so.”

Please vote wisely at this most crucial election. It is easy to be led astray by empty Tory promises but check closely the last seven years under the Tories with the rise in poverty, food banks, poor services, austerity for the few while the wealth of the rich increases. Ask yourself do you really want to see more children in poverty, longer queues at food banks, more cuts to benefits for our most vulnerable citizens, fracking in our countryside, the return of fox hunting, the continuation of the killing of badgers and the Tories lack of support for a total ban on the trade in ivory.

A final comment about Brexit

How many of us can really say we understand what the hell is going on with Brexit, yet when asked people cite concerns about Brixt like some well-worn mantra the essence of which I fear few understand. Brexit in my opinion is in any case one of the biggest disasters in recent times brought about  largely as a result of ill-informed people voting either under the misconception that the money saved would go to the NHS or for racist zenophobic reasons and anti-immigration bigotry – I wonder how people will react when stricter immigration rules hit services. Yes NHS needs EU employees to avoid collapse  However the rights and wrongs of Brexit are not the point of this blog. Article 50 has been triggered Brexit will go ahead, yes the form it will take will depend on who is running the country, the Tories who support the rich and powerful or Labour who support a fair society for all. However Brixit is not the only issue and in my opinion not the most important by a long shot.

Five More Years of Hell

What the hell is wrong with the British people?

Why have they voted for five more years of hell under the Tories? Why!!! Why!!!! Is it simply ignorance or greed? Do people think that the improving economy, if indeed it really is improving, is going to make them more wealthy? If there has been any improvement it has been at the expense of the poorest in our society who have been hit the hardest by austerity measures. Also you can be certain that any improvement to the economy will affect only the wealthy. Foolish people have condemned us all to five more years of Tory policy which benefits only the rich.

I cannot tell you just how shocked and angry I am.

If you voted Tory consider:

Just on the issue of the NHS alone you should not have voted Conservative – Your vote just brought us closer to the end of the NHS

Basically if you voted Tory you have voted for the privatisation of our NHS, the eventual end to free health care?

Consider do you really want private profit hungry big business carrying out surgery, performing scans, X-rays and other diagnostic tests. Never forget that with all private business profit is the main motivation. Making private business responsible for your health care is a slippery slope to the end of the NHS as we know it.

So far a third of  the NHS has gone to the private sector, after five more years how much more will be sold off.

If you voted for the Conservatives you also voted for:

Zero hours.

“It’s the uncertainty that gets to me,” Shirley says, despondently. “These contracts only work one way – they don’t offer any flexibility even if you wanted it because if you turn down hours you suffer. One of the girls had her hours permanently reduced because she asked the line manager for a day off to take her child to the doctors. From that day on her card was marked”.

Low Pay – in 2014 two out of three people took jobs with low pay

16568567849_56b6fac338_h

Two thirds of people who “found” work in 2014, ended up in a job which pays less than the living wage (which is not that much higher than the minimum wage). Many have found themselves in work that is “employment” in name only: in zero hours jobs which for many means just that – no hours = no pay. Many have ended up in workfare and training schemes all designed to coerce people into working for little or no pay.

Food banks – over one million people now use food banks including 330, 000 children

Every day people in the UK go hungry for reasons ranging from redundancy to receiving an unexpected bill on a low income. Trussell Trust foodbanks provide a minimum of three days emergency food and support to people experiencing crisis in the UK.

2013-14 foodbanks fed 913,138 people nationwide. Of those helped, 330,205 were children.
http://www.trusselltrust.org/foodbank-projects

“In spite of the erroneous signs of economic recovery, people are becoming poorer as more people are relying on food banks than ever before.”

Read About food Banks in Maidenhead:

“At just pushing 9.30 AM, the Maidenhead foodbank was rammed with people. Shelves were stacked ceiling-high with tinned food and bags of pasta and it felt more like a UN posting in a war zone than sleepy Berkshire.”

Relentless cuts, low pay and welfare sanctions and other policies have sent millions of the already poor into even deeper poverty, and have pushed many into poverty who weren’t before. And for some there have been tragic results. Who thought that in 21st century UK we’d have people driven to suicide, people starving to death, and unnecessary deaths triggered by stress and hardship.

Homelessness

Since 2010 when the coalition came into power homelessness has risen by as much as 55 percent and in London people sleeping rough has risen even more dramatically by a huge 80 percent since 2010!

HOMELESS levels in England have increased every year since the Tory-led coalition took power, the government’s own figures revealed
http://www.morningstaronline.co.uk/a-a196-Tories-oversee-ever-rising-scourge-of-homelessness#.VUxgE_lVhBc

Continued Austerity

“…the Conservative Party promises to continue cutting government spending by a further 2% over the next two years if it is returned to power. This would not be as fast as the rate of cutting from 2010-2012, but it would be faster than the rate from 2012-2014. This will only serve to hinder British growth further.

According to Oxfam, the government’s austerity policies have devastated Britain’s middle and working classes in a variety of ways:

  • As a result of austerity, an addition 800,000 British children will live in poverty over the next decade.
  • Over the same period, 1.5 million working age adults will fall into poverty.
  • By 2018, 900,000 public sector workers will have lost their jobs.
  • The bottom 10% of British earners will have seen their incomes fall 38% over this government’s five year term.

Indeed, when we adjust for inflation, British workers have seen continual reductions in their wages over the course of this parliament”:

The Killing of our wild animals

Don’t forget that your vote condemns wild animals to suffering and death. If you voted Tory you have voted for the possible reinstatement of the barbaric so-called sport of fox hunting and the continuation of the badger cull/ massacre.
The badger cull will be extended across the country

Cameron wants to repeal fox hunting ban:
http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/david-cameron-says-he-wants-to-repeal-the-fox-hunting-ban-10091571.html

Badger culls would continue under new Tory government:
http://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2015/feb/24/badger-culls-will-continue-under-new-tory-government-liz-truss-says

With regard Cameron’s obsession with repealing the fox hunting bill, ask yourself:
What does this say about the mentality of this man who has the power to affect people’s lives?  With the exception of the very rich, for most of us his policies have been a serious detriment. Most particularly for benefit claimants: sick, disabled and the unemployed. Also for the “hard working people” who are rewarded with low wages and zero hours contracts.

I despair this morning I feel sick at heart at the very thought of five more years of austerity for those of us who are sick, disabled, unemployed, and poor, those whose lives are already a living hell. If you voted Tory, do you not care that the rise in wages are the lowest since Victorian times. Do you not care that your fellow citizens have to use food banks – most are people in work who earn so little they do not have enough to eat!!!!! Do you not care that as a result of the Tories welfare reforms a diabetic died because he had no money to keep his insulin refrigerated , he was sadly was just one of thousands who died as a result of these wicked reforms.

Tory voters: Do you not care that the NHS is falling apart.

Are the British people so selfish that they no longer care for the underdog. Are they so stupid that they are willing to pay more and more for their energy. Are they so ignorant that they really believe life will now improve for us all in this the land of multimillionaires and billionaires who have accured more wealth while the rest of us have suffered under austerity.

Do you Conservative supporters think it is right that the UK now has more billionaires in residence than anywhere else on Earth while people rely on food banks, low income and in some cases no income as a result of benefit sanctions?

It has been announced that BT have made Two and half billion pounds profit , does it not bother you that they are allowed to make this money at your expense while people in our country starve to death? Live in poverty with no hope, no future?

While the Tories strive to end our welfare system they hand out tax breaks to corporations.

Does it not bother you Tory voters that while the government cut vital benefits to sick and disabled people and the unemployed they handed out what amounts to benefits to corporations to the tune of £85 billion.  During the last four years the drastic and unfair welfare reforms instigated by Labour have been progressively slashed still further by the coalition government resulting in thousands of deaths, including suicides, huge increases in homelessness misery and despair with more and more poverty-stricken people needing to resort to food banks. As unbelievable as it is people here in the UK have starved to death as a result of the government’s vicious welfare reforms.

Did you know that our privately run train service is kept afloat as a result of billions of pounds of grants provided by you the tax payer and that Amazon have paid less in corporation tax to the UK than it has received in government grants.

While the poor get poorer the rich get richer aided by government hand outs. Since the last election the wealth of the richest has increased by 11% while most of us have suffered the consequences of austerity measures, the most devastating of which have been the drastic cuts to benefits to sick and disabled people.

… research by the Equality Trust, which campaigns to reduce inequality in the UK, found that the richest 100 families in Britain in 2008 had seen their combined wealth increase by at least £15bn, a period during which average income increased by £1,233. Britain’s current richest 100 had the same wealth as 30% of UK households,

http://www.theguardian.com/business/2015/jan/19/global-wealth-oxfam-inequality-davos-economic-summit-switzerland

Do you conservative voters not want a better world where all people have enough to live on, not only the essentials of life but enough to have a quality of life. Doesn’t the rise in capitalist greed and exploitation of our fellow human beings, other animals and the environment disgust you? Don’t you Conservatives feel ashamed that while the one percent own and of course control the majority of the vast resources of our world people die from want of food and clean water. While BT share holders enjoy their two billion plus people struggle to survive in Nepal – this huge amount of money would seriously help the thousands who are left in poverty after the earthquake in one of the poorest countries in the world.

Five more years of a Tory government will see the end of us all, the end of just and fair society.

Shame on anyone who voted Tory while benefits are being stripped from disabled people, people who are too sick to work who can in many cases barely cope with day-to-day living yet are considered fit to work and for non compliance are left destitute with no income, not even the means to obtain food, shelter or warmth, all of which are basic human rights that we all should demand. While food banks open at an alarming hitherto unparalleled rate and people die in their own homes from cold here in the sixth richest country in the world, the rich get richer.

Well I could go on and on the list of misery as a result of the Tory government is long and protracted.

Frankly if I had the wherewithall I would leave this damn country.

…the real victims of the Tory triumph will be the poor, disabled and workers on low wages and zero hours contracts. The welfare state itself is under threat.

The victims will be everybody who relies on a National Health Service threatened by privatisation and cuts.

We fear for everybody who isn’t rich or wealthy.

The Mirror
http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/disastrous-labour-election-leaves-poor-5657479

I fear for the future of the NHS and the welfare state, I fear for us all including wild animals and the environment – whats to stop this government steaming a head with fracking our countryside. Nothing absolutely nothing.

Thank you all you self-centred, ignorant, easily led Tory voters,  you have taken us further from social justice, a fair and equal world and a safe environment not only for us but for future generations.

For the Sake of Animals Don’t Vote Tory

Our humanity isn’t measured by how we treat other people…Our humanity is measured by how we treat animals.
Chuck Palahniuk

If you love animals and wish to protect our wildlife don’t vote Tory in the general election.

10500290_1002425336452866_6985457337305235400_n

The cruel and indiscriminate slaughter of our wildlife has to stop: hunting, shooting, deer stalking, the organised and legalised killing of animals such as badgers and other barbarous and wanton killing of defenceless animals. Such has no place in any civilised country.

With the coming election we have the power to bring an end to some of these atrocities.

If the conservatives are elected they intend the following concerning our wild life here in the UK.

The badger cull will be extended across the country

“If elected, the Tories would roll out the culling programme more widely across the country to areas where the disease was most common… Culls could begin as early as this year.”

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/earth/wildlife/11431886/Badger-cull-extended-across-Britain-if-we-win-election-Tories-say.html

Apparently this will happen no matter about what you or I say:

“We will not let up, whatever complaints we get from protesters groups. We are in it for the long haul and we will not walk away.” Liz Truss ,environment secretary

If elected the Tories intend to reinstate fox hunting.

David Cameron says he wants to repeal the fox hunting ban.

“The Conservatives will hold a parliamentary vote on repealing the fox hunting ban if they win the next election, David Cameron has said.

The Prime Minister, who has previously ridden with the Heythrop Hunt in Oxfordshire, said he believed in the “freedom to hunt” and wanted fox hunting legalised.”

Cameron knows this but gives no regard to the wishes of the majority.

Brian May is leading an anti blood sports campaign in the face of the Conservative resolve to repeal the law against fox hunting, stag hunting and hare coursing if they get win the forthcoming election.

Cameron himself enjoys hunting and shooting stags.

“…the Prime Minister has been hunting down and killing animals for more than 20 years. Apparently he is one of the few marksmen skilled enough to shoot two stags in one go.

The fact remains that hunting is cruel and causes animals unnecessary suffering. It’s appalling that our country’s leader indulges in killing for the sheer fun of it

When animal cruelty is portrayed by some as a ‘sport’, it debases society and perpetuates unacceptable animal cruelty. Blood sports have no place in an ethically developed society. That is why polls repeatedly show that the vast majority of Britons oppose such gratuitous violence. We expect our elected politicians to protect the vulnerable and helpless, not to destroy them – much less to derive pleasure from it.”

He also enjoys fox hunting, read the following rant from Cameron

“I have spent all week in a state of complete fury.

Like a man possessed with an advanced case of Tourette syndrome, I have been shouting at traffic and assailing my fellow men (and women).

What has brought on this demented state? The hunting debate

It is difficult to explain why this one issue makes me so furious.

Sitting in parliament involves hours of listening to opinions with which you profoundly disagree. I am usually able to do this without shouting, but as soon as I hear Labour members calling for hunting to be banned, I completely lose it.

When John McFall (Dumbarton) gets to his feet I shout “go back to Scotland, you’ve already banned it.”

Interrupting Gerald Kaufman during one of his lengthy and over-precise questions to the minister, I heard myself baying “shut up, you pompous prat.”

During the hunting debate I sat patiently for five hours without catching the Speaker’s eye. My carefully prepared speech was steadily crumpled and shredded in frustration.”

These remarks were made by then MP, now unfortunately Prime Minister, David Cameron in the Guardian Newspaper.

Read the complete article:
http://www.theguardian.com/politics/2002/mar/22/davidcameron.politicalcolumnists

This is the tirade of the man who has been running or might I say ruining the country for the last five years. What does it say about his mentality?

His sickening enthusiasm for hunting a defenceless animal after pursuing him with a pack of hounds is nothing short of disturbing, not only because of the barbaric cruelty involved but because of his zealous even obsessive determination to pursue the matter of preventing a ban on hunting with hounds.

Also see my blog post
https://rantingsfromavirtualsoapbox.wordpress.com/2013/03/19/can-we-really-judge-a-mans-heart-by-his-treatment-of-animals/

“Cruelty to dumb animals is one of the distinguishing vices of low and base minds. Wherever it is found, it is a certain mark of ignorance and meanness; a mark which all the external advantages of wealth, splendour, and nobility, cannot obliterate. It is consistent neither with learning nor true civility.”
William Jones

Did you know  MPs, receive more mail regarding animals than on any other topic yet so little is done concerning thier welfare

Many might say that voting simply to protect wildlife might be rather too focused on a single issue while ignoring the whole picture. However one has to consider the type of thinking and the mentality of a person who devotes so much energy into reinstating a barbaric pastime such as Fox hunting and who pursues other cruel “sports”. If you can callously and wantonly and even worse enjoy killing an animal how can you feel compassion and concern for another human being. To kill an animal so readily with enthusiasm brings such a person a step or indeed several steps closer towards doing likewise to his own species. Though in Cameron’s case he does not kill people of course but most certainly he is willing to implement laws and reforms without a qualm which have resulted in the suffering and death of other people, such as the welfare reforms which have been responsible for deaths of thousands of sick and disabled people.
Consider the following quote from St Francis:
“Not to hurt our humble brethren (the animals) is our first duty to them, but to stop there is not enough. We have a higher mission–to be of service to them whenever they require it… If you have men who will exclude any of God’s creatures from the shelter of compassion and pity, you will have men who will deal likewise with their fellow men.”
This rather explains cameron’s lack of basic compassion towards those who are vulnerbale in our society

So you see that to not vote Tory for the sake of animals has a far-reaching effect. Really who wants a cold-blooded person who enjoys killing defenceless animals running the country and indirectly our very lives. I know I don’t that’s for sure.

“This tendency [to cruelty] should be watched in them [children], and if they incline to any such cruelty, they should be taught the contrary usage. For the custom of tormenting and killing other animals will, by degrees, harden their hearts even towards men… And they, who delight in the suffering and destruction of inferior creatures, will not be apt to be very compassionate or benign to those of their own kind.”
John Locke

For the sake of our wildlife, and for the sake of the most vulnerable in our society don’t vote Tory.

“We can judge the heart of a man by his treatment of animals.”
Immanuel Kant, Lectures on Ethics

Where do our main political parties stand on animal welfare.

With the exception of the Green Party and Labour trying to find  an entire up-to-date manifesto which includes detail of animal welfare is proving extremely difficult. In fact it has been quite a task to easily locate most of the manefestos

Here is what I have found.

Labour’s stance on wildlife and animal welfare:

“Six things you need to know about Labour’s plans to protect animals

We will also build on our proud record on animal welfare – starting with an end to the Government’s inhumane and ineffective badger cull, and a commitment to maintain the ban on hunting with dogs.”

http://www.labour.org.uk/blog/entry/six-things-you-need-to-know-about-labours-plans-to-protect-animals

Labour will axe badger cull and ban wild animals in circuses if it wins election in May
http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/labour-axe-badger-cull-ban-5185304

The green party’s stance on wildlife and animal welfare:

The expansion and development of human society has inevitably affected the lives of many other species. Disruption to their lifestyles has been both accidental and deliberate and has resulted in suffering, death or even extinction. The prevailing assumption that animals can be used for any purpose that benefits humankind is not acceptable in a Green society.

Long Term Aims

To eliminate the wholesale exploitation of other species, foster understanding of our inter-relationship in the web of life and protect and promote natural habitat.

https://www.greenparty.org.uk/resources/2014/AnimalProtectionManifesto.pdf
http://policy.greenparty.org.uk/ar.html

The green party have an impressive list of animal welfare polices, it is well worth reading the above.

Plaid Cymru

“We support the introduction of a European-level Animal Welfare Commissioner and adoption at all government levels of the new and comprehensive Animal Welfare law to end animal cruelty.”

http://www.partyof.wales/2015-manifesto/ while very vague – the above is the only mention of animals and animal welfare in the entire manifesto – I have to say though that Plaid Cymru have done a great job in making their manifesto easily accessible on-line, there is even an audio version and a simplified version.

UKIP do not appear to have any kind of manifesto, apparently no one is interested until after Easter:
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/politics/ukip/11448569/Nigel-Farage-no-Ukip-manifesto-until-after-Easter-how-it-happened.html

The conservative stance on animal welfare appears non existent. Their only commitment concerning animals is negative and is their pledge to reinstate hunting with dogs (fox hunting) and the continued killing of badgers.  According to Cameron: “The Hunting Act has done nothing for animal welfare. A Conservative Government will give Parliament the opportunity to repeal the Hunting Act on a free vote, with a government Bill in government time.”  How hell can the bill have done nothing for animal welfare? It has saved foxes from a cruel death. If it has had little effect it is only as a result of the blatant flouting of the law by hunters who are rarely prosecuted.

A decade on from the ban, fox hunting is still thriving

If we send the message that police and politicians can turn a blind eye to illegal behaviour simply because they don’t like the law, the entire justice system is undermined.”

Here is how Cameron justifies hunting

“It is my firm belief that people should have the freedom to hunt, so I share the frustration that many people feel about the Hunting Act and the way it was brought in by the last government,”

It’s not about freedom it’s about what is right and what is wrong, it’s about ethics and morality, it’s about the right of animals to live their lives free from harm and abuse, it’s about ethical progress and making the world a better place for both human and non human animals. You could use the freedom excuse to justify just about anything even killing each other.

Note: There is at the time of writing no Tory manifesto as a result of Cameron demanding a rewrite
http://blogs.spectator.co.uk/coffeehouse/2015/03/cameron-orders-a-re-write-of-the-tory-manifesto/

Liberal Democrats

… work to restore habitats for bees and other flying insects.

Introduce effective, science-led ways of controlling bovine TB, including by investing to produce workable vaccines. We will only support extending the existing cull pilots if they have shown they can be effective, humane and safe.

Improve farm animal welfare and reduce the use of animals in scientific research, including by funding research into alternatives.

http://www.libdems.org.uk/liberal_democrats_launch_2015_pre_manifesto – how the hell can it be humane to kill badgers, there is never ever anything humane about killing a healthy animal.

Scotiish National Party

I can find any mention of animal welfare polices in their 2015 manifesto:
http://votesnp.com/campaigns/SNP_Manifesto_2011_lowRes.pdf  Though there is information concerning their stance on animal welfare in the EU: Our Animal Welfare priorities for Europe:
http://www.animalaid.org.uk/images/pdf/SNP_Animal_Welfare.pdf

Concerning the above parties the Greens come out the best for animal welfare and animal rights, with Labour the next in line.

Reasons Not to Vote Conservative in the 2015 General Elections: Rise in Homelessness

Homelessness is about more than rooflessness. A home is not just a physical space, it also has a legal and social dimension. A home provides roots, identity, a sense of belonging and a place of emotional wellbeing. Homelessness is about the loss of all of these. It is an isolating and destructive experience and homeless people are some of the most vulnerable and socially excluded in our society.
Crisis – The national charity for single homeless people

Since 2010 when the coalition came into power homelessness has risen by as much as 55 percent and in London people sleeping rough has risen even more dramatically by a huge 80 percent since 2010!

16567317250_f94978ddce_h

Help in to Homelessness

The official figures claim that there are 52,000 homeless and that homelessness has decreased in recent years. Under the circumstances both claims would be nearing the miraculous if they were actually true.

Stagnant or falling wages, rising prices, severe cuts to in-work, out-of-work and disability benefits, the rising costs of living, the implementation of such evils as the bedroom tax and the DWP’s usually fraudulent use of sanctions: how could homelessness be so low, and falling? Of course it isn’t, anything but. The official figures are yet another example of the blatant lies concocted by this government (and governments generally).

Shocking facts

Today in affluent 21st century Britain 90,000 children are homeless

Fifty-two percent of those seeking help with homelessness are under 25.

“…there are more people sleeping on the streets in our city centres than at any point since national records began in 1998.”
https://johnnyvoid.wordpress.com/2015/02/27/the-homelessness-epidemic-gets-worse-highest-number-of-rough-sleepers-since-national-count-began/

“The homeless charity Crisis say the rise has been caused by cuts to benefits, government welfare reform, housing shortages and the legal injustice where homeless people are not a “priority for help.””
http://rt.com/uk/236231-homeless-figures-uk-cameron/

“On average homeless people die at just 47 years old.”
http://www.crisis.org.uk/

There can be few things worse than being homeless. No refuge, no sanctuary, no privacy, no hope.

“We should ask ourselves why it is acceptable that anyone has to sleep rough in Britain today.”
Rick Henderson, chief executive of charity Homeless Link quoted in the Mirror
http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/homelessness-up-more-50-per-5235998

Indeed here in the UK the tax havan for the super rich and the sixth richest country it is unacceptable – well in actual fact it is unaceptable anywhere in the world that people are homeless or live in substandard accommodation and that only 1 percent own half the wealth of fifty percent of the entire population of the world.

In the UK people sleeping on the streets has risen by 55%  since the current Government came into power. This is an absolute disgrace, while the well off have second homes, such as the eight bedroom mansion that is owned by Lord Freud who is responsible for the bedroom tax,  people have to resort to rough sleeping.

Demand an end to homelessness in the sixth richest country in the world

For the sake of the poorest in our society don’t vote Tory in the coming election.

Reasons Not to Vote Conservative in the 2015 General Election: Privatisation of the NHS

During the lead up to the general election here in the UK I am going to include a series of entries under the heading: Reasons Not to Vote Conservative in the 2015 General Election . These periodic postings will as the title suggests concern the many reasons why we should not vote Tory. Each post will centre on one issue, today’s post concerns the privatisation of the NHS and its disastrous consequences.

What should be the glory of the profession is that a doctor should be able to meet his patients with no financial anxiety.
Aneurin Bevan – Labour Party politician best known for his part in the creation of the National Health Service after World War II.

Aneurin Bevan’s stated ambition was to build a health service based on four principles: it was to be free at the point of use, available to everyone who needed it, paid for out of general taxation, and used responsibly.

Sixty-six years on our NHS is under threat from the Conservatives who originally strongly opposed its inception.

If you value our NHS don’t vote Tory in the forthcoming 2015 general election.

Despite pre-election promises and against the wishes of the overwhelming majority the conservatives have steadily and systematically privatised our NHS with disastrous consequences.

Taking the NHS Along the Road to Ruin

Every pre-election promise David Cameron and the Tories made on the NHS, they broke (no surprise). Damaging cuts, unnecessary and disruptive re-organisations and £ BILLIONS of NHS services contracted out to the private sector even when they cost far more to do the same job (but they’ll still do it worse even then).

The country’s first privately-run NHS hospital has been branded “inadequate” in an inspection report, which includes claims from patients that they were instructed to soil themselves.

More Facts

Below is comprehensive well researched information by Eoin Clarke concerning the impact of Tory polices on the health service:

Here are a few highlights:

“518 GPs surgeries have closed or merged under the Tories. The rate is accelerating with 90 closing in the first 5 months of 2014

Performance at England’s A&Es has fallen to its worst levels since January 2004

3.2million patients are currently languishing on NHS Waiting Lists for treatment. This year’s figures are the highest in at least 6 years

The Tories broke their promise not to have another top-down reorganisation of the NHS. They did so by introducing the Health & Social Care Act that abolished SHAs & PCTS and replaced them with CCGs

Jeremy Hunt has subjected the majority of NHS Nurses to a real terms pay cut over 4 years. Nurses’ pay has declined £2,000 in real terms. It is unacceptable that bankers’ pay now grows six times faster than nurses

1,876 Mental Illness Beds have been axed in little since Q1 2010. At least 7 mental health patients have taken their own lives as a result …”
