Please Sign A Petition to Bring About a Crack Down On The Illegal Hunting Of Birds Throughout Europe!

“When I was twelve, I went hunting with my father and we shot a bird. He was laying there and something struck me. Why do we call this fun to kill this creature [who] was as happy as I was when I woke up this morning. ”
Marv Levy

Did you know that the animals most harmed in the name of so called sport are birds. Find out more further down.

If you have time to read nothing else please at least sign the petition to protect some birds from the barbarity of hunting.

206194-1425912117-wide

“Please sign and share this petition worldwide in an effort to speak out in Europe against the illegal hunting of birds. Because of various looplaws and inconsistencies in the laws, it appears that too many birds are losing their lives, leading to a clear extinction of various breeds. We are concerned about specific species of birds such as the Amur Falcon and Lesser Whitethroat (Sylvia Curruca) along with the possibility of endangerment and extinction of these birds, among others.”

More information about the hunting of birds worldwide

It is sickening that some people in our modern society feel the need to hunt any animal and that those in authority such as the EU which implement laws prohibiting such action ignore the blatant breaking of the law in this regard or have failed to close loopholes that allow the mass slaughter of these defenceless animals.

Legal or illegal it is time time to bring an end to the barbarity of hunting any creature, such as here in the UK where it is legal to shoot so called game birds such as grouse, peasants and other birds – there are even proposals to cull/kill robins.  Other than some perverted pleasure there is no reason to hunt and kill any creature. No we are not the earth’s stewards, we have no right to kill any other living being simply for pleasure or under the guise of conservation and excuses commonly made such as thinning down over population and labeling certain creatures as pests and vermin. Nature usually if left alone controls any population explosion as such is always self-limiting.

Here is an example of the barbarity of shooting migrating birds in Malta where there is at present no laws to protect these birds from those who take perverted pleasure in shooting them out of the sky and when they land to rest during their long migration:

“Every spring thousands of exhausted migratory birds land in Malta to rest and feed during their long journey. What they don’t know is that 10,000 hunters are waiting for them with the chilling motto ‘if it flies it dies’.”

This weekend “a referendum, the first of its kind on Malta, will ask whether hunters should continue to be allowed to shoot quail and turtle doves in the spring, when birds stop for a rest in the country on their journey from Africa to northern Europe.”

“Ten thousand hunters on the islands can shoot unlimited numbers of birds, including turtle dove, quail, skylark and song thrush for a five month period between September and January. Hunters can also hunt over 80% of the Maltese countryside”

Europe of course is not alone in its negligence concerning protection of wild birds from hunting, in many other parts of the world there are no laws at all or the laws are ignored and not enforced.

Here are some disturbing examples

Birds massacred in Lebanon – Unfettered hunting a disgrace

“November 2012. We have been contacted by someone from Lebanon who wants to highlight the terrible situation there, where birds are shot indiscriminately in there thousands. As Lebanon is at the cross roads between Europe, Asia and Africa, many of the birds are killed while migrating to and from their breeding grounds.”

Last Song for Migrating Birds

Doves are shot for pleasure in Argentina

In Google enter “stop dove shooting in Argentina” and you will see at least two pages of websites promoting the hunting of these defenceless birds.  Sickening the number of links to websites extolling this cruelty as a pleasure. One website advertises non stop shooting.

Unfortunately there appears to be no campaigns to stop this , at least none that I can find.

Dove Shooting: A Grisly Hunt

“Mourning doves are the traditional bird of peace and a beloved backyard songbird. But some people use mourning doves as live targets, sometimes calling them “cheap skeet.” Hunters kill more doves each year—more than 20 million—than any other animal in the country.”

Albania’s Coastal Wetlands: Killing Field for Migrating Birds

“Millions of birds migrating between Africa and Europe are being illegally hunted on the Balkan Peninsula, with the most egregious poaching occurring in Albania. Conservationists and the European Commission are calling for an end to the carnage.”

by phil mckenna

“Environmental groups have estimated that more than two million ducks, geese, songbirds, and raptors are shot along the Adriatic’s eastern shores every year — part of what’s known as the Adriatic Flyway, a key migratory route for birds making their seasonal journeys between the European and African continents. A recent analysis by Wetlands International, a conservation group based in the Netherlands, concluded that as many as one-third of all birds using the Black Sea-Mediterranean Flyway — an area that includes the Adriatic Flyway — are now in decline, in large part due to illegal hunting.”

Well I could go on adding link after link, there are few places safe for birds in this world of ours. I am shocked in the extreme, saddened and sickened by mans barbarity. It is disturbing to know we share this world with people of this ilk. Sometimes I am ashamed to be human.

From beasts we scorn as soulless,
In forest, field and den,
The cry goes up to witness
The soullessness of men.

Take Action to Help the People of Gaza

1393724_777513638972450_5090263697706142791_n

Like most people world-wide I am shocked by the horror that is unfolding in Garza. The killing of defenceless children who have tasted and enjoyed so little of life and indeed adults who like most of us simply wish to live out their lives in peace. I do not understand fully this complex situation, all I know is that people are dying and it has to stop.

The pictures seen below bear undeniable witness to the horrific suffering taking place in Gaza as a result of Israel’s indiscriminate attacks on the civilian population. Most of the dead are civilians – men women and children, no one is spared the onslaught of death and destruction raining down on them. Also animals suffer, caught up in the conflict as you will see further down.

The recent weeks of violence has resulted in the deaths of at least 1,922 Palestinian deaths – 448 of them children- with more than 9,000 injured.

Please take the time to take as many of the following actions as you can.

Write e-mail or letters

Amnesty International

Please send an e-mail to the foreign secretary

GAZA: STOP THE ARMS, STOP THE KILLING

Call on the UK government to halt the supply of arms to Israel. We must not facilitate war crimes.

It began just after four o’clock on a sunny Wednesday afternoon. Four young boys, all cousins from the same family, were playing football on a Gaza beach.

The Israeli shelling rained down – killing all four children.

Indiscriminate targeting of civilians and medical facilities is against international law. And if countries, including the UK, continue to supply weapons to Israel they will be potentially facilitating war crimes

Please read more and send the e-mail:

Do edit to personalise if you can but if this is not possible please send it as it is.

Petitions

Those who have survived death continue to suffer as a result of the lack of adequate medical care and attention.

Please sign the following petition asking The Rt Hon Philip Hammond MP to send
Send RFA Argus hospital ship to Gaza

A health crisis is looming in Gaza for trapped civilians, with dire conditions in the main Gaza City El Shifa hospital. Doctors operate on the floor and in corridors. People die untreated. Media reports say only one x-ray machine is working with a lack of doctors, nurses, paramedics, and the most basic equipment. With borders closed, casualties are unable to leave to seek treatment elsewhere.

The hospital ship RFA Argus is moored in Falmouth. She is uniquely designed for this type of necessity. We request that the British Government unilaterally and rapidly deploys RFA Argus to Gaza.

War as practiced by humans is unknown among other animals. But we drag them into all our wars regardless – either actively as conscripts, or just by destroying them and their homes with barely a passing thought.

Reports of animals caught up in the current war between Israel and the Gaza Palestinians are few and far between, but three particular stories did surface this week:
