Bull is Killed at Spanish Fiesta

Below is a guest post by the animal and human rights activist and supporter of free software Luis Leonel.

SPAIN, FILTHY STEPMOTHER

“Goodbye, filthy stepmother, country of serfs and lords…,” Juan Goytisolo,  Catalan writer and intellectual, wrote in his 1970 “Reivindicación del conde don Julián” novel, and sixteen years after he repeated the same words in the “En los reinos de Taifa” memoirs.

Filthy stepmother, country of serfs and lords, where massacring animals in the name of art and tradition is a “fiesta”.

A “fiesta” supported and defended mostly by the corrupt Spanish right wing.

Bull kills itself after horns set on fire at Spanish fiesta

Warning Graphic Footage: The frightened animal ran head first into a wooden pole and dying instantly

“A bull killed itself on a wooden post after being sent into a terrified frenzy when it’s horns were set on fire in front of a baying crowd.

Footage has emerged of the animal becoming confused and scared before it runs a short distance around a ring and hits its head on a wooden post in the small town of Foios in ValenciaSpain.

The animal, which died instantly, was initially tied to the post in front of the baying crowd during the “Bulls in the Street” festival – which is a scaled down version of Pamplona’s famous Running of the Bulls festival”

Animal Abuser: Esperanza Aguirre

toros

Below is a guest post by the animal and human rights activist and supporter of free software Luis Leonel.

The Spanish aristocrat, politician and headhunter, ESPERANZA AGUIRRE, was President of the Community of Madrid from 2003 to 2012 for the corrupt right-wing Partido Popular (People’s Party) and now is the president of that party in Madrid and spokesperson of the Municipal People Group in the City of Madrid. She was even Minister of Education and Culture.

The woman is also a great supporter of animal cruelty in Spain, particularly of bullfighting. As president of Madrid, Aguirre financed bullfighting with public money and declared it of “cultural interest” as an argument to raise subsidies with money from the regional coffers. Only for 2012 her administration budgeted EUR 2.2 millions for “bullfighting affairs.”

In 2013, Esperanza Aguirre wrote “Los Toros” (“The bulls”), a mediocre article in Spanish language in which she glorifies bullfighting and for which she was awarded a prize of EUR 5.000 euros. In that article she says “the bull is the most beautiful animal in the world”. That is why the bull should be tortured and slaughtered Esperanza?

Also, she became the first Spanish woman to date to have been awarded an Honorary Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire in February 2004. She, as her admired David Cameron, enjoys the bloody sport of fox hunting.

The video below shows Esperanza Aguirre watching two Spanish teenagers training in the Escuela de Tauromaquia de Madrid, one of the tauromachy schools she subsided when she was President of the Community of Madrid and continues to support. “Madrid is and will remain the world capital of bullfighting,” Aguirre wrote.

And you, Esperanza, are and will remain an animal abuser.

The video in this page  shows Spanish teenagers, students from a Madrid bullfighting school, digging with passion and wickedness the “descabello”, the “estoque” and the “puntilla” into terrified calves.

Warning some people may find this video upsetting

Magnificent spectacle of cowardice and cruelty that the MINISTRY OF CULTURE OF SPAIN rewarded with the BULLFIGHTING NATIONAL PRIZE, worth EUR 30,000.

Bullfighting were declared officially CULTURAL HERITAGE OF SPAIN with the only votes of the corrupt conservative and Christian democratic PARTIDO POPULAR (PEOPLE’S PARTY) in the Senate on 2013. Consequently, bullfighting is regulated, protected and promoted in all Spain except CATALONIA. In Catalonia, an autonomous community of Spain, where a majority of its citizens voted to become independent from Spain and found a new republic on past September, bullfighting has been banned since July 2010.

The Partido Popular has even proposed that UNESCO recognizes bullfighting as INTANGIBLE CULTURAL HERITAGE OF THE HUMANITY. Current president of Spain, MARIANO RAJOY; the former regional president of Madrid, ESPERANZA AGUIRRE, a strong supporter of bullfighting schools; and mediocre Nobel Prize in Literature winner, MARIO VARGAS LLOSA, support that proposal.

Help Stop the Horrific and Cruel Toro Jubilo festival

More actions you can take to Stop the Torture of Bulls at the Toro Jubilo festival – see a previous entry

https://rantingsfromavirtualsoapbox.wordpress.com/2014/10/13/help-stop-cruelty-to-bulls-in-spain/

Please take the following actions before November 15th

Help PETA to Stop the Horrific and Cruel  Toro Jubilo festival

Every year in November, a festival called Toro Jubilo is held in Soria, Spain, during which balls of flammable tar (or pitch) are attached to the horns of bulls and then set on fire. The terrified animals, either tied to stakes in public squares or released to run madly through the streets, burn in agony for hours, the blazing tar scorching their faces and bodies. Many frantic bulls reportedly crash into walls in blind terror! Their carcasses are later consumed by participants who believe that the flesh of the tortured animals provides fertility and invincibility. Video of this horror can be seen here.

Please urge Soria officials to ban Toro Jubilo. Remind them that this sadistic, archaic event has no place in today’s society, and let them know that you and everyone you know will boycott travel to Soria until this cruelty has stopped. And please, forward this alert far and wide!

Read more and send a message to Soria Officals:

Please edit if possible but send the message as soon as you can and spread the word. This is just so horrific, it turns my stomach to think of the cruelty and the suffering these animals endure. It has to stop now. The fact that a country such as Spain allows this to take place is a disgrace, an anachronism from a bygone age. Such treatment of our fellow creatures has no place in an ethical or progressive society.

November 15th Spain will Yet Again Cause Great Pain to Bulls

Yet again Spain will torture bulls. Getting tied to a post by its horns and a plank of wood attached to a metal bar doused in pitch – a highly combustible mixture of turpentine and sulphur. While the flames eat the wood
Fiercely hot sparks and embers drip from the burning torches onto the terrified and suffering young bull.

Then released it will be chased around by a screaming laughing crowd. The bulls can’t do much more than run around in pain, often smashing into walls in tying to put out the flames. Stumbling over things placed on the ground to the delight of the crowd. During this time the dripping hot pitch burns the bull’s horns, body, face, nostrils, and eyes and causes tremendous pain – all while spectators cheer and run around the victims hitting them with sticks.

WEEAC® – International
World Events Ending Animal Cruelty

Although Spain is known for its rich culture and traditions, many of these traditions involve severe cruelty toward bulls. The annual tradition in the little town of Medinaceli located in the city of Soria, Spain is called Toro de Fuego or Toro Jubilo, and it involves burning live bulls in front of locals and tourists. This cultural event gathers roughly 4000 spectators in the November of every year, and each year, innocent bulls are horrifically murdered.

Tax Payers Money Used to Fund Bull Fighting!

Did you know that your taxes help fund the cruelty of bullfighting ?

Most people are unaware that their hard earned money is going to fund this abhorrent barbarity.

All British taxpayers subsidise this cruelty. Yet the majority of British people are opposed to bullfighting, according to a 2008 poll conducted by the League Against Cruel Sports 89 per cent would not visit a bullfight.

Here is the reality of bull fighting: – A very distressing video, make me ashamed to be human.

It is time that this barbarity was banned by the EU.

Take action against bullfighting

At least lets impede this brutality by urging your MEP to vote to stop European subsidies for bullfighting this coming Wednesday 22nd.

This morning I received the following notification in my e-mail from the League Against Cruel Sports. Please read and take the suggested action. There is a deadline of  Wednesday 22nd October which doesn’t give us much time. There is a suggested template letter which I will included further down.

Next week, on Wednesday the 22nd October the European Union will vote on budgets for 2015. Each year the European Union provides an estimated £110 million through Common Agriculture Policy payments to farmers who breed bulls for bullfights.

£13.5 million comes from the UK alone. Yes, this means that some of your hard earned tax is helping to support this barbaric industry.

Next Wednesday your MEP will have an opportunity to support and vote for an amendment to prohibit the use of European funds to support farmers who breed bulls for bullfights.

Green MEP Indrek Tarand has tabled a proposal to prohibit European subsidies being used to support these farmers. This amendment will be voted on in the European Parliament next Wednesday, with a roll call vote. That means that we will know exactly who supports these subsidies and who does not.

The European Convention for the Protection of Animals kept for Farming Purposes is clear: Animals should not suffer pain, injury, fear or distress.

Farmers breeding bulls to be tortured slowly for public display can never comply with these conditions and therefore should not be eligible for agricultural subsidies.

Bullfighting relies heavily on the backing of European funds and also funds from Spanish Administrations. Without these payments, trends show that this bloodthirsty industry would be on the brink of collapse.

We need to demonstrate political and public support against the use of our taxes being used in this way.

Please contact your MEP and urge that they vote to stop European subsidies for bullfighting on Wednesday and please do let us know how they respond by emailing us at campaigns@league.org.uk. You can choose to contact any or all of your MEPs that are listed as there will be several representing your region.

You can find out who your MEPs are by going to www.writetothem.com and entering your postcode.

We have provided some suggested text for you to use if you wish, but please use your own words as much as possible.

The links to  www.writetothem.com are perhaps not the best way to contact your EMP if you are not able to personalise your e-mail with your own words as according to the website’s information, cut and paste e-mail is deleted: Use your own words; we block copied-and-pasted identical messages”.

If for some reason you are not able to personalise your e-mail it might be better to use the following link:

European Parliament / Information Office in the United Kingdom:
http://www.europarl.org.uk/en/your_meps.html#shadowbox/1/b – EMPs for your region, you will have more than one.

Template Letter:

Dear (INSERT MEP NAME),

As one of your constituents I am asking if you would please vote for an amendment which opposes the use of our taxes being used to help fuel the bullfighting industry.

As you know, next Wednesday the European Parliament will be voting on budgets for 2015. Each year the European Union provides an estimated £110 million through Common Agriculture Policy (CAP) payments to farmers who breed bulls for bullfights. £13.5 million comes from the UK alone.

Next Wednesday you will have an opportunity to support an amendment to prohibit the use of European funds to support farmers who breed bulls for bullfights. The specific amendment on bullfighting is amendment 12 of the Green/FHA group, submitted by Indrek Tarand MEP.

Bullfighting and fiestas which involve the torture of bulls for public display would not be legal here in the UK (as stipulated within the ‘five freedoms’ outlined within our own Animal Welfare Act 2006.) Similarly the European Convention for the Protection of Animals kept for Farming Purposes states:

Animals should not suffer pain, injury, fear or distress.

The CAP allocations toward the bullfighting industry are a clear violation of this Convention.

Bullfighting relies heavily on the backing of European funds and also funds from Spanish Administrations. Without these payments, trends show that this barbaric industry would be on the brink of collapse.

I sincerely hope you will be able to take a few moments to support this important initiative.

Thank you for your support.

Also please take the recommended actions included in a previous entry if you have not already done so:

Guest Blog: Help to stop Bull Fighting

Below is a guest blog by Luis Leonel an animal rights activist – warning some people may find the videos disturbing.

Bullfighting (corrida de toros in Spanish), also known as tauromachia or tauromachy is a traditional spectacle of some European countries (Spain, Portugal, southern France) and some Hispanic American countries (Mexico, Colombia, Ecuador, Venezuela and Peru), in which one or more bulls are tortured and finally slaughtered in a bullring.

Supporters consider bullfighting a traditional art form on par with dancing, painting, sculpting and music, perhaps, in the same way as the gladiator confrontations with other gladiators, wild animals, and condemned criminals, in the Roman Republic and Roman Empire, may have been defended with a similar argument.

The politician and physician Carmen Moriyón Entrialgo is the Mayor of Gijón, the largest city and municipality in the autonomous community of Asturias in Spain, and one of those bullfighting supporters.
